Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
What is Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)?
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the process by which washed sperm is deposited in a woman’s uterus through artificial means. IUI is a less invasive and less costly alternative to IVF.
Who is a candidate for IUI?
- Women who are under the age of 40
- Women without blocked fallopian tubes
- Men who have mild sperm motility, count and morphology issues.
What is the success rate of IUI?
Normally 2 inseminations are done at the same time in order to increase the changes of a successful pregnancy. Sometimes fertility drugs are used to increase the amount and the quality of the eggs that will be fertilized. Overall success rate is 15-20% with 6% from Natural IUIs and up to 30% for IUIs done with fertility drugs.
Chinese Medicine treatment and IUI:
After the IUI procedure, patients are usually given hormonal supplements to aid implantation by their western doctor. In Chinese medicine, we combine acupuncture, Reproductive Organ Massage andherbs to assist with implantation, increase your success rate, and to hedge the negative side effects of the western drugs. The Reproductive Organ Massage is used to unblock any physical blockages in the pelvic cavity and to influence the thickness of the uterine lining and to relax the patient. Also, prior to the insemination, acupuncture and herbs are used to influence both the quality of the egg and the sperm. |
