What are Uterine Fibroid tumors?
Uterine Fibroid tumors, or myomas, are benign tumors of the female reproductive organs. The can occur on the inner and outer wall of the uterus and can vary in size and number.
How are Uterine Fibroid tumors diagnosed?
Diagnosis is generally made by your physician during your annual gynocological exam when your physician feels a mass. When a mass is detected, an ultrasound or a sonohysterography is often ordered as the next step in diagnosing the condition.
What are the symptoms of a Uterine Fibroid tumor?
Although most fibroids cause no symptoms, the estimated 25% of women who do have symptoms may have abnormal bleeding, pain during menstruation, fertility problems, frequent urination and as the fibroid tumors grow larger, women will often experience a swollen abdomen.
